About Stage Right Studios

Early years

Stage Right was established in 1978 by our patron Wendy Truett as ‘the Wendy Truett Theatre School’. The school became Stage Right under the direction of Wendy’s daughter Melanie Truett and in 1998 when Melanie decided to resume her professional performing career the school was handed over to Kerry Hay, a former pupil of the Truett’s.

In May 2000 after a long battle with planning and with a lot of hard work from her Dad, Kerry opened the schools Melbourn Street home in Royston Town Centre. The premises included 3 fully equipped dance studios, a coffee bar and dance wear shop. Kerry’s aim was to give students somewhere safe, friendly and professional to train.

Change of venue

It soon became apparent that any refurbishment work done in Melbourn Street was pointless due to the state of the flat roof and the school was fast outgrowing the space! In 2011 after a lot of false starts the school purchased a warehouse in Lumen Road. The former Royston Fan Company site has undergone a massive transformation and boasts 4 dance studios, a snack bar, dancewear shop, beauty therapy rooms and male and female changing!

The school has always had a fantastic reputation and continues to go from strength to strength. Great teachers, great premises, class variety and our fun friendly attitude are paying off. To date we have students who have been accepted at Laine Theatre Arts, The Urdang Academy, London Studio Centre, Italia Conti, Millennium Dance 2000, Stella Mann College, Bodywork, Bird College, Leicester College of Performing Arts, Mountview, Arts Educational, The Australian Dance Performance Institute, the Sylvia Young Theatre School and the Dance College.

Continued success of our students

Many of our former students are working professionally on television, in music videos, on cruises and seen in theatres in the West End & all over the world. Some are now also teachers in their own right.

Please call us or pop into the studio if you are interested in joining or trying any of our classes.
